Woody Eastman
Then and Now
3
Woody is not a born Texan, but he got here in quick fashion. His father got transferred to NASA in 1964, and the Eastman clan set up camp in Pearland, TX. Woody attended Pearland schools, graduating from Pearland High School, before earning a degree in Forestry from Stephen F. Austin State University.
Woody developed an interest in music at a young age. His father and some of his uncles would have their own pickers’ circles, primarily in Maine and New Hampshire. He was a member of the award winning Pearland High School Band, and started playing acoustic guitar in 1981 during his final year at Stephen F Austin State University.
In the summer of 1981, Woody began performing live with his long time friend Dan Owen in the duo called Just Foolin’ with gigs primarily in southeast Houston. In 1989, Woody began playing solo gigs, incorporating his original tunes. After writing a number of songs, he recorded his 1st CD, Six Years and a Week in the year 2000, with Larry Nye serving as producer.
During the summer of 2009, Woody retired from the City of Lake Jackson (parks and rec director), and moved to the Texas Hill Country, recording his 2nd CD in 2014, and was another production from Larry Nye.
Currently, Woody resides in Fredericksburg, TX, and in Feb, 2021, will be recording his 3rd CD. This CD, produced by Walt Wilkins, will be completed in the spring of 2021.
Woody’s performances are typically a mix of folk and Americana cover tunes and his originals, but he can play a 3 hour show with all originals, or all cover tunes if desired. At one of his typical shows, you'll hear his original songs, as well as songs by such artist as Dan Fogelberg, The Eagles, John Denver, Robert Earl Keen, Guy Clark, etc., and perhaps songs by some hill country favorites like Mike Blakely and Walt Wilkins. If you make it to one of Woody’s shows, be sure to say “hello”.
